Thelocactus hexaedrophorus is a succulent cactus native to Mexico, valued for its unique shape and large, colorful flowers. This species is fairly hardy and is suitable for cactus collectors due to its distinctive appearance and moderate care needs.
Flowering occurs in late spring and early summer. The flowers are striking, trumpet-shaped, white or pink.
Care:
- Light: Thelocactus hexaedrophorus prefers direct sunlight or partial shade. Strong light is essential for optimal growth and flowering.
- Soil: Requires well-drained soil, a specific mix for cacti.
- Watering: Watering should be moderate during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, watering should be greatly reduced or stopped to prevent rotting.
- Temperature: Tolerates high temperatures but does not withstand frost. It is recommended to keep it at a minimum temperature of 5°C during winter.
Special features:
- Growth rate: Grows quite slowly but becomes more impressive as it matures.
- Hardiness: Very drought-resistant and requires very little water, making it ideal for cactus collectors who want an easy-to-care-for plant.
