Saxifraga stolonifera is a beloved plant for the color of its leaves, also known as Jew's beard, Deaf grass, Little grape, or Mouse's eyes.

Saxifraga stolonifera is an easy-to-care-for plant.

1. Light

  • Prefers indirect light or partial shade.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.

2. Watering

  • Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil slightly moist, but avoid overwatering.
  • In the cold season, reduce watering, but do not let the soil dry out completely.

3. Humidity

  • Loves moderate humidity, making it ideal for bathrooms or well-lit kitchens.
  • In dry environments, occasionally mist the leaves or use a humidifier.

4. Soil

  • Prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter. A mix of universal soil with sand or perlite is ideal.

5. Temperature

  • The ideal temperature is between 15-25°C.
  • Avoid exposure to temperatures below 5°C to prevent leaf loss. It can also survive outdoors down to -10°C in a sheltered area protected from blizzards.

6. Fertilizing

  • Apply a liquid fertilizer for indoor plants every 4-6 weeks during the active growing period (spring-summer).

7. Repotting

  • Repot the plant every 2-3 years or when the roots become crowded, using a pot with good drainage.

8. Propagation

  • It easily multiplies through runners.
  • Cut a runner with small roots and plant it in moist substrate.

9. Common problems

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or underwatering.
  • Dry or burnt leaves: Direct sun exposure.
  • Pests: Can be affected by aphids or mites. Use natural insecticides if needed.
