Hoya clemensiorum sp. Sumatra is a label for plants of the species Hoya clemensiorum, selected and sold under this batch name. The leaves are thick, substantial, deep green, with prominent, almost sculptural veins. The species is a vine native to Borneo. Sumatra is not a separate taxon and is not the batch sold as short leaf or Dark Leaf. Under good growing conditions, star-shaped, cream flowers with burgundy-brown edges appear in umbels. The flowers are fragrant. Blooming depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage. The foliage is firm and elliptic-lanceolate, with a central vein and raised lateral veins against a deep green background. As the vine matures, the leaves may become longer than those of young plants in stock.

Flowers and fragrance. The species’ flowers are star-shaped, with reflexed lobes, cream-yellow toward the center and burgundy-brown along the edges, with a cream corona. They appear in dense umbels. They are fragrant; we do not assign a single definitive scent note. Blooming depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted name is Hoya clemensiorum T.Green, published in 2001. Its native range is Borneo. Sumatra, short leaf, and Dark Leaf remain commercial labels for separate SKUs. Do not confuse this species with the unpublished Hoya sp. Aceh.
