Bougainvillea 'Dania Red' (rood-cyclaam) - Papierbloem D17
Bougainvillea, commonly known as the paper flower, is a decorative flowering plant native to South America and can be an excellent choice for gardens or terraces. No one can think of a summer landscape in Greece without including the impressive bougainvillea that adds color to every corner.
Here is a brief care guide:
Watering - Bougainvillea needs moderate and regular watering. It is important not to overwater the soil, as this can lead to root rot and other problems. Watering should be more frequent during the growing season and less frequent in winter.
Soil - Bougainvillea prefers well-drained, sandy soil. Avoid heavy or clay soils that retain water.
Light - Bougainvillea requires plenty of light and prefers well-lit locations. Choose a spot that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Fertilizer - Bougainvillea needs regular fertilization to grow and produce abundant flowers. Use a special fertilizer for flowering plants and apply it every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
Pruning - Bougainvillea can be pruned to prevent roots from becoming too large and to encourage dense branch growth. Cut branches that have grown too much or look unhealthy.
Protection against cold - Bougainvillea does not tolerate low temperatures or frost.
NOTE! The flowers of this plant are temperature-sensitive – it may arrive without flowers, but it is capable of blooming again in the following weeks.
