Sinocalycanthus 'Hartlage Wine' - Orchid Tree - large, fragrant flowers
Sinocalycanthus 'Hartlage Wine' - highly ornamental hybrid named after student Richard Hartlage, who succeeded in crossing Sinocalycanthus chinensis (Chinese species) and Calycanthus floridus (US species) in 1991 at the JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University.
A sensational plant was thus obtained, with large flowers (approx. 7-8 cm), burgundy, which have a pleasant sweet fragrance. This hybrid also has very good resistance to cold.
The plant's appearance changes dramatically in late spring, when it is practically covered in fragrant flowers.
Other common names: Strawbush, Orchid Tree, Sweetshrub
Cold resistance: -25°C
Height with pot included: approx. 25-45 cm (varies depending on season and horticultural work)
Pot diameter: 15 cm
In the cold season, the plants are sold without leaves, trimmed for branching.
