Phalaenopsis violacea 'Blue' × 'Pink'.

Phalaenopsis violacea - a botanical species found on the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, at altitudes from sea level up to 150 meters. This small to medium epiphyte grows in warm conditions, having a very short stem and 3-4 elliptical, blunt, wavy leaves that gradually narrow at the base. It differs from Phalaenopsis bellina by having smaller leaves and flowers, and is also easier to hybridize, although the results are not as good as with Phal. bellina.

Phalaenopsis violacea produces extremely fragrant flowers that appear in spring, developing one by one on a sturdy, jointed, hanging flower stem 10-15 cm long, bearing 2-7 flowers. The flowers have a spicy cinnamon scent and open 2-3 at a time.

This botanical species is used in Phalaenopsis hybridization because of its fragrance. It requires shaded spaces and high humidity, as well as regular watering, without allowing the substrate to dry out completely.

Fragrant flowers: YES

Flower size: approx. 4 cm
