Peperomia prostrata Baby Plant – String of Turtles, miniature trailing plant

Peperomia prostrata, commonly known as String of Turtles, is a miniature tropical plant prized for its small, rounded leaves with a silvery-green pattern reminiscent of a turtle shell. It is one of the most attractive Peperomia varieties with a trailing or cascading habit, making it suitable for small pots, terrariums, and, as it develops, hanging planters.

Specimens sold as Baby Plant are young, small-sized plants. The stems gradually lengthen and eventually form a dense mass of leaves that can extend beyond the edges of the pot and take on the characteristic cascading appearance of the species.

• Light: prefers bright, indirect light. Insufficient light may cause the stems to become elongated and the leaf pattern to become less pronounced. Avoid strong direct sunlight.
• Substrate: airy, light, and very well-drained. The roots are fine and sensitive to excess water.
• Watering: moderate. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid keeping the substrate permanently wet.
• Humidity: appreciates moderate to high atmospheric humidity, which is why it also adapts well to terrariums, provided there is good ventilation.
• Temperature: ideally around 18-26°C. Protect from low temperatures and cold drafts.
• Fertilization: light, during the active growing period, using reduced doses.
• Growth: can be pinched periodically to encourage branching and achieve a denser appearance.

📌 Note - Baby Plant

The plants sold are juvenile specimens (Baby Plants) at an early stage of development. Size, stem length, number of leaves, and plant density may vary from one specimen to another. The full, cascading appearance characteristic of mature plants develops gradually as new stems grow.

As these are very young plants with fine stems and small, delicate leaves, specimens may have missing leaves, spots, small tears, marks, or other aesthetic imperfections resulting from growth, acclimatization, handling, and transport. The plant may lose a few additional leaves or very fine sections of stems during the acclimatization period. These aspects do not normally affect the plant’s viability, and it can regrow and thicken its foliage through new growth once established.
