Full description and specifications

Notocactus leninghausii var. inermis , also known as "Golden Ball Cactus" or "Golden Barrel Cactus", is a special variety of cactus, appreciated for its globular shape and its large and colorful flowers. The name "inermis" indicates that this variety has few or no thorns, unlike other varieties of the same species.

Description:

  • Form: Notocactus leninghausii var. inermis has a globular or cylindrical shape, slightly elongated as the plant matures. The plant can reach heights of 15-20 cm and a diameter of 10-15 cm.
  • Color: The surface of the cactus is light green, covered with symmetrically arranged small tubers.
  • Thorns: This variety is notable for its very small or almost non-existent thorns, which makes it easier to handle compared to other cacti.
  • Flowers: The flowers are large, bright yellow, and appear at the top of the cactus. They bloom in summer and are very attractive, adding more color and visual interest to the plant.

Care:

  • Light: Prefers sunny places, but can also adapt to semi-shade.
  • Temperature: The ideal is a moderate temperature, between 15 and 25°C. In winter, it needs a rest period at a lower temperature (between 5 and 10°C).
  • Watering: Water moderately in spring and summer, letting the substrate dry between two waterings. In winter, it is watered very rarely or not at all.
  • Substrate: A well-drained mix, specific to cacti, is best.
  • Transplantation: It is transplanted in the spring, after 2-3 years, in a slightly larger pot.
