Hoya myrmecopa 'Jaune'

Hoya myrmecopa 'Yellow' - an endemic species from Sulawesi, Indonesia, described in 2001. The flowers are relatively small, fragrant, in shades of cream - yellow - orange, showing variation depending on growing conditions. The leaves are small and glossy.
The flowers have a pleasant, medium-strength scent and appear in clusters of about 15 per umbrella. Flowering is not seasonal, but for successful blooming it is recommended to grow the plant in a position that offers as strong filtered light as possible. Collectors recommend it as a plant with frequent flowering.
The plant is compact, with manageable size and adapts very easily to any microclimate, requiring minimal care. Specimens grown in strong light have smaller, thicker, pigmented (colored) leaves, while those grown in weaker light have larger, deep green, thinner leaves.
The approximate translation of this species' name (myrmecopa) would be "ant hole" - in nature, the initially collected specimen was growing in a hollow formed by ants, living in symbiosis with them. The substances produced by the ant nest provided nutrients to the plant. The association with ants might also indicate that this plant prefers an acidic substrate - formic acid is produced in ant nests, a substance also known for its antibacterial effects.
