Hoya flagellata is sold under this name, with firm, ovate or lanceolate, green foliage, sometimes showing faint splashes on the tissue. It has a vining habit, with long, slender shoots. In bright light, the leaves may develop reddish hues. The flowers are star-shaped, cream-colored, very hairy, with a burgundy corona and long hairs emerging from the center. The commercial title remains unchanged. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are firm, ovate or lanceolate, with a matte-glossy surface. The faint splashes on the green tissue are not variegation and do not make this batch the Silver selection. In bright light, the foliage may turn red or bronze; the intensity varies. The shoots are long and slender, suitable for a small support or for trailing. In this batch, the plant is a young vine in a plastic pot; the ceramic vessel shown in the image is not included with the product.

Flowers and fragrance. The gallery shows umbels of star-shaped, cream or creamy-white flowers, densely covered in hairs, with a burgundy corona and long hairs emerging from the center. The corolla may develop a pinkish tint in bright light. The petal tips may curl back. A horticultural data sheet notes the absence of fragrance and nectar; the catalog tag is not an independent verification, so we do not promise fragrance. The flowers last for several days. Identity. The commercial title remains Hoya flagellata. The name was published by Kerr in 1940. In cultivation, the material is associated with Thailand and is close to Hoya caudata, with leaves that are usually less spotted.
