Sempervivum ‘Friso’ is a very decorative garden houseleek, valued for its compact, lush rosettes and intense coloring in shades of dark burgundy, purple, and green, highlighted by fine, whitish filaments that create a delicate web-like effect in the center of the rosettes. Its unusual and contrasting appearance makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, planters, shallow pots, or other mineral arrangements, where it can gradually form dense and spectacular groups.

It is a very hardy outdoor succulent, easy to care for and ideal for those who want a compact plant with natural charm and strong visual impact throughout the year.

🌱 Botanical characteristics:

  • Family: Crassulaceae
  • Plant type: perennial outdoor succulent, decorative through rosettes
  • Common name: houseleek
  • Habit: compact, low, forming dense rosettes and numerous lateral offsets
  • Leaves: fleshy, firm, symmetrically arranged in a rosette, with well-defined tips
  • Special feature: rosettes may have fine, whitish filaments that create a very decorative web-like effect
  • Color: burgundy, dark purple, and green, with more intense shades in sunlight or cold seasons
  • Overall appearance: geometric, compact, and very decorative, ideal for rock gardens and mineral compositions

💧 Growing and care conditions:

  • Light: prefers full sun; in good light, the color becomes more intense and the rosettes remain compact
  • Watering: low; after planting, water moderately, then the plant becomes very drought tolerant
  • Substrate: very well-drained, poor to moderately fertile, sandy or mineral
  • Humidity: does not tolerate excess water, especially in the cold season
  • Temperature: very well adapted for outdoor growth, including in harsh conditions
  • Maintenance: requires minimal care; it is important to avoid water stagnation at the roots
  • Frost resistance: very good; in very well-drained soil, it can generally withstand temperatures down to about -20 / -25°C. In pots, it needs extra winter protection, especially against excess moisture.

What makes it special:

  • stands out for its intense, dark, very decorative coloring
  • the fine web effect in the center of the rosettes gives it a unique look
  • ideal for rock gardens, planters, shallow pots, or dry stone walls
  • tolerates sun, drought, and temperature variations well
  • gradually forms compact colonies with a lush and orderly appearance
  • can produce thin flower stalks that add extra visual interest

📌 Note: The rosettes of Sempervivum ‘Friso’ may vary slightly in size, shape, and color intensity depending on the season, light, and growth stage. Some outer leaves may show minor imperfections, slight handling marks, or naturally dry as the rosette renews itself. Well-developed clumps may be delivered with numerous offsets and developing flower stalks. These aspects are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.
