Sansevieria ‘Masoniana’, also commonly known as “Whale Fin”, is an impressive succulent plant from the Asparagaceae family, native to Central Africa (the Democratic Republic of the Congo). Its name comes from the shape of its large, broad, upright leaf, which resembles a whale’s dorsal fin.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

Growth habit: A medium- to large-sized herbaceous plant with slow growth and an upright structure. It usually has a single large leaf, but over time it may produce several leaves or offsets from the rhizome.

Leaves: Very broad (up to 25–30 cm) and long (up to 1 metre), with a slightly rounded or pointed tip. The color is dark green, with irregular spots or stripes in lighter green. The leaf margin is smooth, while the surface is waxy, firm, and glossy.

Roots: A fleshy underground rhizome from which the plant can produce new shoots. The roots are thick and well adapted to water retention.

Flowers: Rarely appear when grown indoors. When it blooms, it produces an upright inflorescence with small, fragrant, greenish-white flowers similar to those of other Sansevieria plants.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but also tolerates partial shade. It adapts well to indoor conditions, including artificial light. In bright natural light, the leaf retains its visible pattern and grows more harmoniously.

Watering: Rarely and sparingly. Allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. During the cold season, reduce watering even further. It is highly drought-tolerant but sensitive to excess water.

Soil: Well-drained substrate suitable for cacti and succulent plants. Perlite or sand can be added to prevent waterlogging.

Humidity: Tolerates dry air and does not require high humidity. Misting is not necessary.

Fertilizing: Apply small doses of fertilizer for succulents infrequently (once a month during the active growth period – spring and summer).

Height including pot: approx. 45 cm
