Lonicera caprifolium - Caprifoglio

Lonicera caprifolium, also known as Italian honeysuckle or European honeysuckle, is a perennial climbing plant valued for its very fragrant flowers. This honeysuckle species produces tubular flowers, colored in shades of white and yellow, which bloom from spring to summer. The flowers are followed by small, red, spherical fruits that add extra visual interest but are not edible.

The foliage is semi-evergreen or evergreen depending on the climate, with oval, opposite leaves that taper to a point. Lonicera caprifolium prefers sunny or partly shaded places and well-drained soil, often used to cover fences, pergolas, or other garden structures due to its fast growth and ability to provide a dense green screen.

The plant is valued in landscaping not only for the beauty and scent of its flowers but also for its ability to attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies, thus contributing to the garden's biodiversity.
