Hoya 'Rosita' is a collectible horticultural hybrid (the name 'Rosita' is not officially registered, but is used in commerce and by collectors), prized for its elongated foliage with dark edges and the red, burgundy, or coppery hues its leaves can develop in bright, filtered light. It grows vigorously, forms branching vines, and can be left to trail or trained around a support. The waxy, dark red flowers with yellow tips on the corona are fragrant.

Hybrid produced in 1999 by Rosita Pettersson (Sweden) from seeds of Hoya wayetii; the second parent is not known with certainty, and horticultural sources attribute it to either Hoya tsangii or Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae (DS-70).

Some sources indicate Hoya wayetii x Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae, with the second parent also known by the collection number DS-70.

Hoya wayetii and Hoya tsangii are distinct accepted species. The name Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae indicates a plant related to Hoya burtoniae, not a botanical synonym. Since no primary record from the hybridizer has been identified, the parentage is presented cautiously as horticultural information, not as a definitive botanical fact.

Characteristics. The leaves are fleshy, elongated, and slightly pointed, narrower than those of Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae and similar in length to Hoya wayetii. The surface may have fine pubescence, and the edges often develop dark tones. In bright light, protected from harsh direct sun, the foliage can change from green to red, burgundy, dark purple, or coppery orange. Color intensity naturally varies depending on light, season, and growing conditions.

The vines grow well, branch out, and show off the plant in a hanging pot. They can also be trained around a support as they lengthen.

Flowers and fragrance. The waxy flowers are grouped in umbels and are dark red, with yellow tips on the corona. They are fragrant, with a sweet scent. The size and timing of flowering depend on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

The decorative pot is not included in the price.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
