Hoya pubicalyx 'Reva' (super splash) - arch, mature specimens

Hoya pubicalyx 'Reva' is a vigorous cultivar with narrow, glossy, dark-green foliage irregularly speckled with silver splash. The splash appears as silver droplets across the green leaves. Its density varies from one leaf to another and from one vine to another. Under good growing conditions, it produces umbels of fragrant, waxy, purplish-red flowers. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and splash. The leaves are narrow, glossy, and dark green, with irregular silver markings. The effect is known as splash. Young leaves may be almost entirely green; the pattern may become denser as the leaf blade matures. The same pot may contain vines with dense splash and vines that are almost entirely green. The growth habit is vining. Shoot length varies from one specimen to another.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are star-shaped and waxy, grouped in umbels. In 'Reva', the described color is dark purplish red, similar to that of other Hoya pubicalyx selections. The color may appear lighter or darker from one flowering to another. The flowers are fragrant, especially in the evening. Fragrance intensity is not identical in every umbel. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted species name is Hoya pubicalyx Merr., published in 1918. Its native range is Luzon, Philippines. 'Reva' is a seedling selection made by Dale Kloppenburg and named after his mother. Super splash describes the high density of silver speckles; it is not a taxon and is not a separate cultivar. It is not 'Pink Silver', 'Red Buttons', or 'Royal Hawaiian Purple'.
