Hoya carnosa is the reference species of the genus, known as the wax flower. It is an epiphytic or lithophytic vine with thick, glossy, green foliage. Silver splashes may appear on the blades. The flowers are star-shaped, white to pink, pubescent, with a darker corona, and are fragrant. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions. A rewarding houseplant with simple care.

Foliage and splash. The leaves are ovate or elliptic, thick and glossy, with entire margins. The color ranges from dark green to lighter green depending on the light. Silver splashes appear irregularly and may be absent from some leaves. It is not a variegated cultivar and is not 'Freckles'. The growth habit is climbing, with growth described horticulturally as vigorous.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers appear in globose umbels. The corolla is white or pale pink and finely hairy; the corona is cream-colored, with a red or dark pink center. The gallery includes an umbel of this type. They are fragrant. The duration of a flowering period is described horticulturally as approximately one week, not as a guaranteed timeframe. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted name is Hoya carnosa (L.f.) R.Br., published in 1810.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
