Calathea warscewiczii is a remarkable tropical houseplant, valued for its velvety leaves and striking patterns.
Main features:
• Leaves: large, oval, velvety to the touch. The upper side is deep green, with a feather-shaped or lighter striped pattern. The underside of the leaf is a dark maroon, almost burgundy.
• Growth: the plant forms dense clumps. In a pot, it can reach 60-90 cm in height and width.
• Flowering: under ideal conditions, it can produce cream-white or slightly pinkish cone-shaped flowers, but it is generally grown for its decorative foliage.
• Light: prefers strong indirect light. It tolerates lower light, but in too strong light the leaves may become pale or suffer burns.
• Watering: the soil should be kept evenly moist, but not soaked. Watering with chlorine-free water or rainwater is recommended.
• Temperature: ideal between 18°C and 27°C. Does not tolerate temperatures below 15°C.
• Humidity: requires high humidity (over 60%). In dry air, the leaf edges may turn brown. Regular misting or using a humidifier is recommended.
• Soil: well-drained and rich in organic matter, ideally a mix for tropical plants.
• Toxicity: considered non-toxic to pets (safe for cats and dogs).
Additional tips:
• Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
• Wipe the leaves periodically with a soft, damp cloth to maintain a healthy appearance and help the plant breathe better.
Calathea is a plant sensitive to temperature differences. Plants from this batch show leaf blemishes, but these do not affect the plant’s viability.
