Astrophytum asterias, commonly known as Silver Dollar Cactus, Star Cactus, or sea urchin cactus, is a miniature collectible cactus valued for its nearly perfectly round shape, flattened body, and geometric rib pattern.

This mix may include specimens with different appearances: dark green plants, forms with fine or very dense white dots, as well as specimens resembling Super Kabuto type selections. Each plant is unique, and the natural pattern of dots and areoles gives it an individual character.

Astrophytum asterias is spineless, making it suitable for collections, offices, bright windowsills, or arrangements with cacti and succulents.

🌵 Botanical characteristics:

• Botanical name: Astrophytum asterias
• Common names: Silver Dollar Cactus, Star Cactus, sea urchin cactus
• Family: Cactaceae
• Shape: globular, slightly flattened, divided into well-defined ribs
• Surface: green to dark green, with white dots or scales in varying proportions
• Spines: absent
• Growth: slow and compact
• Flowers: yellow, usually with a yellow-orange or reddish center
• Natural origin: southern Texas and northeastern Mexico

💧 Growing and care conditions:

Light: prefers a very bright spot with gentle morning or evening sun. Plants should be gradually acclimated to direct sunlight, as sudden exposure to strong rays can cause burns.
Watering: water moderately only after the substrate has completely dried. Water remaining around the roots can quickly cause root rot.
Winter: watering is drastically reduced, especially if the plant is kept in a cooler space.
Optimal temperature: about 18-28°C during the growing period. In winter, a bright, dry place protected from frost is recommended.
Humidity: prefers dry air and good ventilation.
Fertilization: occasional, in spring and summer, with cactus fertilizer applied in a reduced dose.
Repotting: only when necessary, as roots are sensitive to injury and excess moisture.

🌱 Recommended substrate:

A very well-drained substrate for cacti and succulents is recommended, with a high proportion of mineral components such as perlite, pumice, coarse sand, or volcanic rock. The pot must have effective drainage holes.

What makes it special:

• collectible cactus with a geometric and symmetrical appearance;
• spineless;
• each specimen has a unique pattern of white dots;
• suitable for small spaces and rare plant collections;
• requires infrequent watering and low maintenance, provided overwatering is avoided;
• can produce large flowers relative to the plant size.

📌 Note:

The product is available as a mix. The delivered plant is selected randomly, and the density of white dots, shade, number, and shape of ribs may vary from the presentation images. Some specimens may have more white dots, while others may be predominantly green. These differences are natural and do not represent defects. Astrophytum asterias is sensitive to excess water, and slight changes in volume or appearance may occur during dormancy periods or after transport.

The displayed price is for 1 plant. The plant is sold without flowers.
