Oncidium Katrin Zoch "Mieke" – flowers with a sweet vanilla fragrance

Primary hybrid registered in 2011 by M. Holm: Oncidium schroederianum × Oncidium sotoanum. The 'Mieke' clone is the best-known commercial selection. It is also sometimes sold under incorrect commercial names (e.g. “Sharry Baby Yellow Flash”), but it is not related to the Sharry Baby hybrid.

Oncidium Katrin Zoch 'Mieke' is a sympodial orchid with pseudobulbs and easy flowering. It produces flower spikes with many small to medium-sized, delicate pink flowers with a sweet vanilla fragrance. Blooming usually lasts 4–5 weeks. It is especially appreciated for its combination of abundant flowering and clear fragrance.

Simple care:

• Light: bright indirect light or bright partial shade. Avoid strong direct sunlight.
• Temperature: intermediate, approx. 16–26°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C.
• Watering: allow the potting medium to partially dry out between waterings. It prefers more regular watering than Phalaenopsis, but not water that remains stagnant in the potting medium.
• Humidity: 50–70%, with good ventilation.
• Potting medium: airy, Cambria / Oncidium type.

Uses:
Ideal for indoors, on a bright windowsill or near an east- or west-facing window. Its fragrance is noticeable in the room during flowering. Suitable for both beginners and Oncidium collectors.

Note: Do not cut the flower spike immediately after flowering if it is still green. The flowers may show variations in shade. It is an epiphytic plant: its roots need air, not ordinary potting soil.
