Culvita Mediterranean pine bark, sourced from maritime pine (Pinus pinaster / also commonly referred to as Pinus maritima in horticulture), is a natural, durable, slow-decomposing material suitable for growing orchids and creating airy mixes for tropical plants.

Thanks to its coarse structure, the bark allows air circulation around the roots and rapid drainage of excess water, making it especially useful for plants that are sensitive to compact substrates.

🌿 Features

  • Manufacturer: Culvita

  • Material: natural Mediterranean pine / maritime pine bark

  • Species: Pinus pinaster

  • Grade: approximately 5-12 mm

  • Stable, airy structure

  • Slow decomposition

  • Promotes drainage and root oxygenation

  • Can be used on its own or as an ingredient in substrate mixes

  • Contains no dyes or artificial additives

  • Origin: European Union

🌱 Use for orchids

The 5-12 mm grade is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized orchids, including young or mature plants.

It can be used as the main substrate for many epiphytic orchids, such as:

  • Phalaenopsis

  • Vanda

  • other orchids with roots that require very good aeration

For Vanda or other orchids with highly aerated roots, the method of use should be adapted to the growing conditions and watering frequency.

🪴 Use in mixes for tropical plants

The bark can be added in different proportions to improve aeration and drainage in substrates intended for:

  • Monstera

  • Philodendron

  • Anthurium

  • Syngonium

  • Alocasia

  • Scindapsus

  • Epipremnum

  • Hoya

  • other Araceae and epiphytic or semi-epiphytic plants

The bark pieces create air pockets in the substrate, reduce compaction, and help maintain a stable structure over time.

✨ Advantages

  • 100% natural material;

  • coarse, airy structure;

  • very good drainage;

  • helps reduce substrate compaction;

  • decomposes slowly;

  • suitable for orchids and Araceae mixes;

  • can be combined with perlite, pumice, coco coir, sphagnum, or other components, depending on the plant's needs.

📌 Note

As this is a natural product, the size, shape, and color of the bark pieces may vary. The bags may occasionally contain pine wood chips or fragments, which is normal for this type of material.

Slight differences in volume may occur between packages due to the porosity, compaction, moisture, and natural density of the material. These variations are normal and do not constitute a product defect.
