Senecio rowleyanus (gyöngyfüzér) *babánövény
Senecio rowleyanus, also known by the common name „String of Pearls”, is a striking fleshy plant from the Asteraceae family, grown for its unique appearance: long, trailing stems covered with spherical leaves that resemble a string of green beads. It is ideal for hanging pots, high shelves, or fleshy plant arrangements, being a popular choice for modern decorations.
🔹 Botanical features:
• Form: A fast-growing fleshy plant with long, thin, creeping/hanging stems that can reach over 1 meter in length. It grows spectacularly in hanging pots.
• Leaves: Small, round (pearl-shaped), light green, with a fine translucent stripe (“window”) that allows light to enter inside the leaf – a specific adaptation of fleshy plants.
• Flowers: Small, cream-white, sometimes appearing at maturity, with a slightly sweet scent, with hints of cinnamon or vanilla. The flowers are tubular and appear in small clusters.
🔹 Recommended growing conditions:
• Light: Prefers strong indirect light. Can tolerate gentle morning sun but must be protected from the direct and strong midday rays, which can burn the leaves.
• Watering: Low. Water only when the soil is completely dry, as the roots and leaves store water. Excess water is dangerous and can lead to root and stem rot.
• Soil: Very well drained – ideally a mix for fleshy plants and cacti (with sand, perlite, or fine gravel).
• Temperature: Grows well in warm and bright environments. Does not tolerate low temperatures and must be protected from frost.
• Humidity: Easily adapts to dry indoor air. Does not require high humidity.
• Fertilizing: Once a month during the warm season (spring–summer), with a diluted fertilizer for fleshy plants.
