Full description and specifications

Sempervivum 'Lone Star' is a perennial succulent known for its attractive leaves and ease of care. This variety of Sempervivum is appreciated for its colorful leaves and for its ability to adapt to various environmental conditions.

  • General appearance: Sempervivum 'Lone Star' forms compact rosettes of fleshy leaves, which can reach a diameter of 8-10 cm. The rosettes are symmetrical and very dense, creating an attractive visual effect.
  • Leaves: The leaves are fleshy, dark green with red or purple tips, especially in strong light conditions. The leaves have fine edges, which add extra texture and visual interest to the plant.
  • Flowers: The flowers are small, star-shaped, pink or red, and appear on tall stems, about 10-20 cm, during the summer. After flowering, the mother rosette dies, but leaves behind numerous young.
  • Roots: The plant develops a superficial root system, which allows it to absorb water efficiently from the rare and short rainfalls.

Care:

  1. Light: Sempervivum 'Lone Star' prefers sunny places. It can also tolerate partial shade, but maximum exposure to the sun helps to intensify the colors and maintain a compact growth.

  2. Soil: Prefers a well-drained, sandy or stony soil. It is essential that the soil does not retain water, to prevent rotting of the roots. A potting mix for cacti is ideal.

  3. Watering: Watering must be moderate. Sempervivum 'Lone Star' is drought resistant and does not require frequent watering. During the summer, water the plant when the soil is completely dry. In winter, reduce watering to a minimum.

  4. Temperature: It is a cold-resistant plant and can tolerate low temperatures, even below -20°C. It adapts well to a wide range of temperatures, but prefers a temperate climate.

  5. Fertilization: Does not require frequent fertilization. A light application of fertilizer for cacti and succulents in the spring can be beneficial, but is not essential.

  6. Propagation: Sempervivum 'Lone Star' is easily propagated by separating the young that appear around the mother rosette. These seedlings can be planted directly in the prepared soil.

  7. Common problems: The main problem is excess water, which can lead to root rot. Make sure that the soil is well drained and that the plant is not standing in water. Also monitor the plant for pests such as aphids or slugs, although these are usually not a major problem.

Uses:

  • Decorative: Sempervivum 'Lone Star' is ideal for rock gardens, borders, containers and green roofs.
  • Resistance: Due to its resistance to drought and cold, it is an ideal plant for areas with difficult environmental conditions.

Sempervivum 'Lone Star' is a beautiful and easy-care plant, perfect for adding a decorative element to your garden or succulent collection.
