Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' is an attractive variety of Sempervivum, known for its colorful leaves and robust appearance. This perennial succulent plant is ideal for rock gardens, borders, pots and other decorative arrangements due to its ability to adapt to various environmental conditions.

Description:

  • Leaves: The leaves are fleshy, thick and arranged in compact rosettes. The color of the leaves varies from green to shades of dark red, purple or garnet, hence the name 'Blushing Garnet'.
  • Rosettes: The rosettes are dense and can reach a diameter of 5-10 cm. As the plant matures, the rosettes can form colonies by producing pupae at the base.
  • Flowers: The flowers appear on tall stems, about 15-20 cm, and are pink or light red in color. Flowering usually takes place during the summer. After flowering, the rosette that has flowered dies, but the plant continues to live through its young.
  • Dimensions: Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' forms rosettes of approximately 5-10 cm in diameter, and mature plants can reach a height of 15-20 cm when flowering.

Care:

Light: Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' prefers sunny places with direct sunlight. It can tolerate partial shade, but the colors of the leaves will be more intense if the plant receives enough light. Indoors, place the plant near a window facing south or west.

Soil: Prefers a well-drained, sandy or stony soil. A mixture of soil for cacti and succulents, combined with coarse sand or gravel, is ideal to prevent excessive water retention.

Watering: Watering must be moderate. Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' is drought resistant and does not require frequent watering. During the summer, water the plant when the soil is completely dry. In winter, reduce watering to a minimum. Water the plant at the base to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases.

Temperature: Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' prefers moderate temperatures, but can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, from extreme heat to cold. It is resistant to frost and can withstand temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.

Humidity: The plant prefers a dry and well-ventilated environment. Avoid high humidity, which can favor the development of fungal diseases.

Fertilization: Fertilize the plant once at the beginning of spring with a diluted liquid fertilizer for cacti and succulents. There is no need for excessive fertilization. A light fertilization once a year is enough.

Propagation: Sempervivum 'Blushing Garnet' is easily propagated by separating the young that appear at the base of the mother rosette. Seedlings can be taken and planted directly in well-drained soil. Procedure: Carefully separate the seedlings from the mother plant and plant them in a pot or directly in the garden, making sure that the roots are well covered with soil.
