Full description and specifications

Opuntia tomentosa , known as "Velvety Tree Pear" or "Woollyjoint Pricklypear", is a cactus native to Mexico, remarkable for its segmented stems in cladodes covered with soft bristles, giving it a velvety appearance. Its small and sharp thorns and glochids protect the plant from predators.

The red-orange flowers are spectacular and appear in spring and summer.

The oval-cylindrical fruits have a diameter of 4-6 cm and are covered with a velvety skin, varying from green to dark red. They are edible, with a sweet-sour taste, and are used in jams and juices. They are rich in fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants, with health benefits.

Opuntia tomentosa grows in the arid and semi-arid regions of Mexico, being resistant to drought and adapted to well-drained soils. It is a valuable species, providing food and shelter for the local fauna and being used both for consumption and for ornamental purposes.

Height with pots included: approx. 20 cm.
