Full description and specifications

As their name suggests, Scented Geraniums are evergreen perennials grown mainly for their fragrant leaves. The perfume is emitted when the leaves are touched or rubbed.
The flowers, although small, have a delicate beauty, from intense red to pale pink. The heights are variable: some grow up to over a meter; others only reach 30cm. Trimming the tips can easily help control the height.
Pelargoniums with fragrant leaves are very tolerant to drought and heat. In the 400 years, 140 varieties were produced with an impressive range of perfumes. These include rose, lime, lemon, nutmeg, peach, cinnamon, eucalyptus, grapefruit, almond ginger, oak, mint, strawberry, coconut and apple. Not surprisingly, many are grown commercially for their oil, which is used by the perfume industry.

Care

  1. Light : Pelargonium grows best in bright places, with direct sunlight for at least a few hours a day. It can tolerate partial shade, but the fragrance of the leaves can be less intense in the absence of adequate light.
  2. Watering : Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Avoid excessive watering, which can cause root rot. During hot summer periods, plants may require more frequent watering.
  3. Temperature and humidity : The fragrant geranium prefers warmer temperatures, ideally between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. It is not frost tolerant, so in colder regions it must be brought indoors during the winter.
  4. Fertilizer : Apply a diluted liquid fertilizer once a month during the period of active growth (spring-summer). Reduce fertilization during winter.

Specimens may have leaves with defects - these do not affect the viability of the plant.
