Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem' – evergreen foliage, fragrant flowers (branched specimens)

Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem' is a compact, dwarf variety of Magnolia grandiflora, valued both for its spectacular flowers and its small size, which makes it ideal for small garden spaces or container cultivation, as well as for its stunning foliage.

Magnolia 'Little Gem' is known for its large, white flowers, which are highly fragrant and appear from spring through autumn. The flowers have fleshy petals and a cup-shaped form. They are usually approximately 10–12 cm in diameter, although some can grow larger.

The leaves are also attractive, with an oval shape, a leathery texture, and a glossy dark green color on the upper surface, with a bronze shade underneath. This combination of dark green and bronze adds contrast and texture to the landscape. The foliage of this plant is evergreen—the leaves only fall in extreme temperatures.

This magnolia variety grows as a shrub or small tree, reaching approximately 4–6 meters in height and 2–3 meters in width. It has a slow growth rate and a pyramidal or oval shape. It is resistant to diseases and pests and prefers well-drained soils with a neutral or slightly acidic pH.

Cold hardiness: withstands temperatures down to -20°C. It is best planted in areas protected from strong drafts to maintain the most attractive foliage possible.
