Hoya sp. Ternate is a label for a collector’s Hoya associated with the island of Ternate in the Moluccas, Indonesia. Its identity has not been published as an accepted species. The foliage is thick and dark green, with prominent veins and slightly wavy edges. Its growth habit is climbing, with flexible vines and firm leaves. The flowers are described as fragrant, although the plant delivered is not guaranteed to be in bloom. A rewarding houseplant that is easy to care for.

Name and identification. Until a formal publication, the plant will continue to be sold under the name Hoya sp. Ternate.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are firm and glossy, with a clearly defined midrib. The texture and thickness of the leaf blade give it a sculptural appearance, even on short vines. The coloration may become darker in bright light.

Flowers and fragrance. Horticultural sources describe umbels with star-shaped flowers in creamy white or pale pink, along with a noticeable fragrance. Color information is inconsistent. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.
