Hoya obovata 'Variegata Splash' is a cultivar of the species Hoya obovata. The foliage is thick and obovate, with two distinct patterns: true variegation, in cream or yellow sectors on the leaf blade, and separate silver splash, consisting of spots on the green background. The intensity of each varies from one leaf to another. The growth habit is climbing. Under good growing conditions, umbels of fragrant white-pink flowers with a pink-red corona may appear. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage, variegation, and splash. The leaves are opposite, firm, and broader toward the tip. The cream or yellow areas are variegation, meaning tissue with less chlorophyll. The silver spots are splash, an airy pattern in the leaf blade, not variegation. The two may appear on the same leaf, but they should not be confused. The proportion of cream, green, and silver varies from one shoot to another. The species is recognized as a “cactus hoya” because of its fleshy foliage. The leaves may have imperfections on the underside; this is characteristic of the species.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are waxy and grouped in umbels. The corolla is white to pale pink, with a deep pink to red corona in the center. They are fragrant. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name of the species is Hoya obovata Decne., published in 1844. The species is native to Thailand, Vietnam, Sulawesi, and Maluku. 'Variegata Splash' is the label for this selection.

Note: The level of variegation and the level of splash vary from one specimen to another.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
