Hoya heuschkeliana 'Pink' *fragrant

Hoya heuschkeliana 'Pink' is the selection of the accepted species Hoya heuschkeliana, a compact vine from the Philippines, with small, thick, ovate to obovate foliage. The leaves may develop reddish hues in intense light. Under good growing conditions, it produces umbels of pink, waxy, urn- or bell-shaped, fragrant flowers, differing from the star-shaped form of many other Hoya. It has a short vining habit, suitable for growing on a support or trailing.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is small, thick, ovate to obovate, and slightly curved, paler on the underside. In cultivation, the leaves are usually reported to be around 3–7 cm long and 2–3 cm wide; in strong light, they may remain smaller and develop a reddish color. The vine is slender, suitable for growing on a support or in a trailing form. Vine length varies from one specimen to another.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers of this commercial form are pink, waxy, urn- or bell-shaped, approximately 5 mm in size, and grouped in umbels that may contain up to around 12 flowers. An inflorescence remains decorative for about one week. The fragrance is most commonly described as having caramel notes; perception may vary. In cultivation, flowering is reported mainly during the warm season and is encouraged by bright, at least partially filtered light.

Botanical identity. Hoya heuschkeliana Kloppenb. is an accepted species, published in 1989, native to the Philippines, where it grows as an epiphytic or lithophytic vine in a humid tropical biome. 'Pink' is a sales label for the form with pink flowers. It is not a separate taxon and does not replace the species name.
