Full description and specifications

Ferocactus latispinus, often known as "broad thorn cactus", is a species of cactus native to Mexico. The plant has a globular or short cylindrical shape, reaching a height of up to 30 cm and a diameter of 40 cm.

A distinctive aspect of this cactus is represented by its thorns. The central thorn is flat, broad and robust, dark red or brown in color, hence the name "latispinus" (broad thorn). The rest of the thorns are thinner, curved and lighter in color.

The flowers, usually pink-purple, appear at the top, and the fruits are yellow. The flowers can reach up to 3 cm in diameter, and the fruits are edible, having a taste similar to that of kiwi.

Ferocactus latispinus is a resistant plant that prefers well-drained soil and moderate sun exposure. It is drought tolerant and can withstand low temperatures if properly protected. It is a popular choice due to its attractive shape and unique spines.
