Full description and specifications

Encyclia radiata is an orchid found in the states of San Luis Potosi, Queretaro Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Chiapas in Mexico, as well as in Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. It grows in different types of forests, including tropical evergreen and mixed pine and oak forests, at altitudes of 150-2000 meters. It is a small to medium-sized epiphyte, with ellipsoidal to elliptic-ovoid pseudobulbs, slightly compressed and furrowed, partially covered at the base by several scarious sheaths. Each bulb bears 2 to 4 lanceolate-elliptical leaves, obtuse or broadly acute, close to the tip.

Encyclia radiata is a highly fragrant species that blooms in fall, winter and spring on an apical inflorescence, short to 4 inches (10 cm), with 4-12 heavily scented, thick-textured, clam-like flowers. It is an easy species to grow and develops well mounted on wood or in baskets/pots with bark.
