Dioscorea elephantipes - an endemic species from South Africa, notable for the remarkable caudex it forms as the plant grows.

The mature caudex resembles a huge tortoise shell, reaching impressive sizes in nature.

Although it is a "slow grower," the plant does not have special care requirements.
