Klemátisz - Clematis Westerplatte (Korai Nagyvirágú Csoport)
Clematis Westerplatte is a variety of clematis with large flowers, in a blend of magenta and deep red, which adds a touch of brightness and grace to any garden. Its flowers, with velvety petals, often feature a central stripe of a darker red, creating a beautiful contrast and drawing the eye. The flowers reach a size of 12-14 cm.
Classification: Early Large-flowered Group
Growing recommendations:
Large-flowered clematis prefer good quality soil, rich in nutrients and with good moisture, but well drained – they do not tolerate swampy soils where water stagnates. It is recommended to improve the soil at planting time with manure or compost, as much as possible. In the case of cultivation in drier soils, which tend to dry out quickly, cover the base with a layer of shredded bark (or another type of mulch) to retain soil moisture.
Clematis generally prefer a growing space with good sun exposure.
If your clematis blooms in May-June (late spring), cut off the dead flower heads after they finish to encourage a second flowering in late summer or autumn.
Be prepared to wait a few years until your clematis reaches its best form.
First year = roots, second year = shoots and branching, third year = consistent and proper flowering.
In the cold season, the plants appear as leafless sticks that seem dry – this appearance is perfectly normal and the plants are as healthy as can be.
