Orbea variegata is a succulent plant from the Apocynaceae family, native to South Africa, also known as the "starfish plant" due to the unique shape of its flowers. It is valued for its exotic appearance and interesting flowers, but it also requires specific care to thrive.

  • Light: Orbea variegata prefers strong, direct light. In its natural environment, the plant grows under the strong sun of Africa, so indoors or in the garden, it should be given as much light as possible. It can tolerate partial light, but the flowers may be less striking.

  • Watering: Like any succulent, Orbea variegata needs moderate watering. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. During the resting period in winter, the plant should be watered even less.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining mix, specially made for succulents or cacti. Soil that retains water can cause root rot.

  • Temperature and humidity: It prefers warm temperatures typical of Mediterranean or subtropical climates. It does not tolerate temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Humidity is not a major issue as long as the soil drains well.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilizer is not strictly necessary, but you can use a diluted fertilizer for succulents during the active growing period in spring and summer.

  • Repotting: Repot the plant every two years or when it outgrows its current pot, to provide enough space for growth and fresh soil.

Height with pot included approx. 10 cm
