Rhipsalis Cassutha - Vasco cactus

Rhipsalis cassutha , also known as "Mistletoe Cactus" or "Chain Cactus" , is a species of epiphytic cactus, native to tropical regions of South America. It is valued for its distinctive appearance, with slender stems that hang elegantly and create an impressive decorative effect.

General features:

• Stems : Thin, cylindrical and soft, they grow in chains, forming a dense network. They can reach lengths of up to 1-1.5 meters. The stems are light green, and in bright light conditions they can take on slightly yellowish shades.
• Leaves : It has no true leaves, but only stem segments that perform photosynthetic functions.
• Flowers : Produces small, delicate, white or yellowish flowers that appear on the stem segments. The flowers are followed by small, round, translucent, pearl-like fruits.
• Dimensions : It is a medium-sized plant, ideal for hanging or placed in raised pots.

Care:

1. Light :

   • It prefers indirect, moderate to bright light. It is suitable for semi-shaded places.
   • It does not tolerate direct sunlight for long periods, which can cause burns.

2. Watering :

   • Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Being an epiphytic cactus, it prefers constant, but not excessive, humidity.
   • In winter, reduce the frequency of watering, adapting to the plant's seasonal needs.

3. Humidity :

   • It likes a humid environment, so it is a good idea to spray it occasionally or place the pot near a source of humidity.

4. Soil :

   • It needs a well-drained, aerated substrate. An orchid mix mixed with cactus soil is ideal.

5. Temperature :

   • It grows well at temperatures between 18-26°C. It does not tolerate extreme cold or temperatures below 10°C.

6. Fertilization :

   • Apply a liquid cactus fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

7. Trimming :

   • If necessary, the stems can be pruned to maintain the desired shape and encourage branching.
