Full description and specifications

Notocactus leninghausii , also known as "Golden Cactus" or "Golden Conical Cactus", is a perennial, decorative cactus, originally from southern Brazil. It is part of the Cactaceae family and is appreciated for its cylindrical appearance and golden-yellow thorns. It is a popular choice in cactus collections due to its beauty and the ease with which it can be maintained.

Care Notocactus leninghausii

Light :

  • It prefers direct sunlight, but can also tolerate filtered light during periods of intense exposure.
  • In homes, place the cactus near a sunny window, facing south or west.

Temperature :

  • It tolerates warm temperatures well, between 20°C and 30°C.
  • It is sensitive to frost; the minimum acceptable temperature is approximately 5°C.

Soil :

  • It needs a well-drained soil, specific for cacti and succulents.
  • A universal soil mixture with the addition of coarse sand or perlite is ideal to prevent water stagnation.

Watering :

  • Water the plant moderately in the warm season (spring and summer), only when the soil is completely dry.
  • In the cold season (autumn and winter), watering must be significantly reduced, almost stopped, to respect the period of vegetative rest.
  • Avoid excessive watering, which can cause root rot.

Fertilization :

  • Apply a weak liquid fertilizer for cacti and succulents once a month, during the growth period (spring and summer).
  • Do not fertilize in winter, when the plant is at rest.

Replanting :

  • Replant every 2-3 years or when the plant exceeds the size of the pot.
  • Use a pot with good drainage and a fresh substrate.
