Opuntia brasiliensis, currently also botanically known as Brasiliopuntia brasiliensis, is a cactus with an unusual and highly decorative appearance, valued for its upright, shrubby to tree-like growth habit and for the combination of cylindrical stems and flat, green lateral segments.

As it matures, the plant can develop a well-defined trunk and a branched crown, taking on the appearance of a small exotic tree. It is suitable for cactus collections, greenhouses, sunny terraces during the warm season, or very bright interiors.

Mature specimens can produce yellow to yellow-orange flowers, followed by decorative fruits that are considered edible.
