Kiwi - Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red' is a female variety, hardy down to minus 25 degrees Celsius. It requires a male pollinator such as Actinidia arguta 'Weiki'.
The fruits have a smooth skin, which makes them directly edible, even with the peel still on. Unlike Actinidia arguta 'Issai', the fruit is slightly larger, about 4 cm in size, and turns a spectacular red-violet when the plant grows in direct sunlight.
Although smaller than commercial varieties, the fruits make up for it with abundance, taste, and appearance – the yield is quite high and the growth is fairly compact for a kiwi. The taste is sweet, strongly fragrant, and the fruit has good firmness – it does not become soft.
The kiwi can be harvested starting in September. This variety usually produces its first fruits within the first years after planting.
Cultivation recommendations: It is grown on trellises/arches/fences, like a grapevine. We recommend choosing a wind-sheltered area, preferably near a wall or fence with southern exposure. Kiwi 'Ken's Red' appreciates warmth and direct sunlight. The first pruning can be done two years after planting, at the end of winter or immediately after harvest.
It does not require special soil (but prefers slightly acidic soil) and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free".
Height including pot: 15-35 cm. Varies depending on the season.
Pot size: 9 cm
Note: during the cold season, the plants are in dormancy, shortened, and sold without leaves.
