Hoya pubicalyx 'Black Dragon' (Hoya pubicorolla ssp. Anthracina)

Hoya sold as Hoya pubicalyx 'Black Dragon' is a collector cultivar with lime-green foliage, usually without silver splash. The title also includes Hoya pubicorolla ssp. Anthracina; this is a name published in 2013, not a correction to the sales title. The Secret Garden stock remains sold under the commercial name in the title. The star-shaped flowers are dark, ranging from deep burgundy to almost black, and are fragrant. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth habit. The leaves are elongated, glossy, and lime green, usually without silver markings. Splash, which is common in Hoya pubicalyx, is usually absent in forms sold as 'Black Dragon'. This is not variegation. The growth habit is vining. Shoot length varies from one specimen to another.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbels bear star-shaped flowers with a pubescent corolla. 'Black Dragon' is associated with a deep burgundy to almost black corolla and a red corona.
