Hoya heuschkeliana 'Variegata' is a collector’s cultivar, appreciated for its small foliage with inner variegation and its fragrant pink flowers, whose unusual shape is distinctive for the Hoya genus. The stems have a climbing or trailing habit, while new growth temporarily adds shades of pink and red to the cream-green foliage. The small leaves and variable coloring make this Hoya suitable for collections focused on decorative foliage. The colorful foliage remains ornamental all year round.

Foliage. The species’ leaves are thick, ovate to obovate in shape and slightly curved. In the 'Variegata' selection, the center of the leaf is cream-white to creamy yellow, surrounded by a green margin. New leaves may emerge in dark red or pink tones, then gradually develop their cream-green pattern. The foliage may develop more pronounced pinkish-red accents in bright light. Color intensity and the proportion of variegated areas may naturally vary from one leaf to another.

Flowers and fragrance. The small, waxy flowers are urn- or bell-shaped, differing from the star-shaped form found in many other Hoya species. In this selection, they range from pink to dark pink, measure approximately 5 mm and appear in umbels that may contain up to approximately 12 flowers. An inflorescence may remain decorative for around one week.

The fragrance is pronounced and is most commonly described as having notes of caramel or buttery popcorn; the intensity and fragrance notes may vary. The plant may bloom repeatedly. In cultivation, flowering is frequently reported during warm periods, but under favorable conditions it may also occur at other times of the year.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
