Described in 1916 by Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Kraenzlin as a botanical species of the genus Epidendrum, native to Peru and Ecuador (where it was noted as common in the moist mountain forests of the Pomocochas region and along the upper courses of the Amazon basin and the Eastern Cordillera), with a compact habit, frequent, abundant, and prolonged blooming lasting 6 weeks to 3 months, easy to maintain indoors, suitable for mounting in terrariums, Epidendrum capricornu prefers cooler locations with temperatures between (11) 16 and 24 (26)°C, but is fairly tolerant regarding humidity, accepting a wide range between 40 – 80%, likely a reflection of its native habitats in mountainous areas at altitudes between 1700 and 2750 m.
