Hoya macgillivrayi (large fragrant flowers)

Hoya macgillivrayi (family Apocynaceae) is one of the most spectacular Hoya species from Australia, found only in the Iron Range - McIlwraith Range area of the Cape York Peninsula. 

Hoya macgillivrayi produces huge, striking flowers, usually dark red, purple, or pink, star-shaped, with a lifespan of up to 3 weeks. The flowers mostly appear in the warm season, grouped in clusters of up to 10-15 per stalk, and each flower can reach up to 7 cm in size.

The scent of the flowers is impressive and refreshing – a blend of citrus and gardenia blooms.
