Hoya 'Jennifer' (H. incrassata x H. finlaysonii)

Hoya 'Jennifer' is a horticultural hybrid marketed with the parentage Hoya incrassata x Hoya finlaysonii. The selection was developed by Michael Miyashiro in Hawaii in 1995. The foliage is thick, with prominent veins, and can reach approximately 20 cm. It has a vining growth habit. The flowers are white or cream, with red corolla tips, grouped in round umbels, and have a pleasant fragrance. Flowering repeats frequently under stable conditions, while growth slows during the cold season.

Identity and commercial parentage. 'Jennifer' is a horticultural cultivar, not a species. The commercial parentage listed in the title remains Hoya incrassata x Hoya finlaysonii. Both species in the parentage are accepted names: Hoya incrassata Warb. is native to the Philippines, while Hoya finlaysonii Wight is native from southern Thailand to western Malaysia. The hybrid was developed by Michael Miyashiro in Hawaii in 1995 and was later named by Carol Noel.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are thick, firm, oblong-lanceolate, with an acuminate tip and prominent veins that are more visible in good light. The undersides may be slightly pubescent and lighter in color. The typical size is 10–18 cm, with leaves that can reach approximately 20 cm. Splashing is reduced or absent. It has a vining growth habit and can be trained on a support. Growth is relatively slow and tends to stall during the cold season.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbels are round, usually with 20–30 flowers. The corolla is white or cream, reflexed, with red or purple tips; the corona is white. Fully yellow flowers do not correspond to this cultivar. A flowering period lasts 4–5 days; under stable conditions, the plant reblooms frequently. The fragrance is pleasant, of the incrassata/finlaysonii type, usually milder than that of Hoya incrassata.
