Hoya acuta 'Albomarginata' D6 (NL) - fragrant flowers

Hoya acuta 'Albomarginata' is the commercial name under which a selection with marginal variegation of the botanically accepted species Hoya verticillata is known. The selection is also found as Hoya verticillata 'Albomarginata' IML 1625; IML 1625 is a collection number associated with the clone, not another botanical name. Its leaves and flowers make it easy to fall in love with. A striking, easy-to-love cultivar.

It is an epiphytic Hoya with a vining habit and vigorous growth. It can be trained on a support or allowed to grow as a trailing plant, while its variegated foliage retains its ornamental value even outside the flowering period.

Foliage and variegation. The leaves are thick, glossy, and elliptical, with a green center and cream-white to pale yellow margins. The variegation is marginal, of the outer-variegated type, and the distribution and width of the lighter areas may vary from one leaf to another. On new growth, the lighter margins may temporarily display pink or reddish tones, which fade as the leaf matures. The contrast between the green center and bright outline is the main feature that distinguishes it from the green form.

Flowers and fragrance. At maturity, the plant produces abundant umbels with numerous waxy flowers, ranging from white to cream. The flowers have reflexed petals and a central corona in yellow-pink to yellow-orange tones. The fragrance is sweet, with a slightly spicy note, while its perceived intensity may vary depending on the time of day and growing conditions.
