Senecio herreianus ‘Purple Flush’ (also known as String of Watermelons) is a collectible trailing succulent, valued for its small, oval leaves densely arranged on stems, which can develop an attractive bronze-purple hue in good light. It is perfect for hanging pots or high shelves, where the stems naturally hang down, forming a decorative cascade.

🌿 Botanical characteristics:

  • Family: Asteraceae

  • Botanical name: Senecio herreianus ‘Purple Flush’ (syn.: Curio herreanus)

  • Common name (RO):string of watermelons”, trailing succulent

  • Leaves: oval, fleshy, with fine stripes; in strong light they can develop purple/violet tones

  • Growth habit: trailing, ideal for hanging pots

☀️ Growing and care conditions:

  • Light: bright, indirect; tolerates mild sun (morning). Better light = more intense color

  • Watering: infrequent; water only after the substrate is completely dry. Excess water is the most common cause of problems

  • Humidity: normal; no misting required

  • Temperature: 18–28°C; protect from cold and drafts (not an outdoor plant in winter)

  • Substrate: very well-drained, succulent/cactus type; pot with drainage holes required

  • Maintenance: can be lightly pruned to thicken; cuttings root quickly in airy substrate

Advantages and uses:

  • Trailing plant with a “jewel-like” appearance, excellent for vertical decoration

  • Interesting coloration that changes depending on light

  • Easy to propagate, ideal also for gifts or arrangements mixed with other succulents

📌 Note: Leaf color may vary depending on light and season. Stems may show minor aesthetic marks or detached leaves due to transport, without affecting the plant’s viability. Decorative pot is not included in the price.
