Tradescantia cerinthoides “Sweetness” is an ornamental variety of Tradescantia valued for its brightly colored leaves and ease of maintenance. Like most Tradescantia species, it grows as a bush or with trailing shoots, making it perfect for hanging pots or as an indoor plant that decoratively drapes over furniture edges.

Appearance

• The leaves are oval and can show shades of green and purple or pink, depending on the light and leaf age.

• The stems are thin but vigorous, quickly supporting new growth.

• It may develop small, delicate white flowers, but the plant is mainly grown for its decorative foliage.

Care requirements

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. In places with too little light, the plant may lose color intensity.

• Watering: Requires moderate watering. It is recommended to let the top layer of soil dry slightly between waterings. Too much water can lead to root rot.

• Humidity: Develops well under normal humidity conditions but appreciates occasional misting, especially if the indoor air is dry.

• Soil: A well-draining substrate, preferably a special mix for indoor plants (universal soil mixed with perlite or sand for drainage).

• Temperature: Grows well at temperatures between 15-28°C. Avoid temperatures below 10°C for long periods.

• Fertilization: Once or twice a month during the growing period (spring-summer), with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended concentration.
