Thelocactus flavus – Mexican cactus with golden spines and yellow flowers

Thelocactus flavus is a rare cactus native to northeastern Mexico, appreciated for its well-proportioned, globular body and robust, golden-yellow spines, which also inspired the species name (flavus = yellow). Its geometric appearance and spectacular flowering make it a highly sought-after species among cactus collectors.

At maturity, it produces large, yellow, satin-like flowers that appear at the top of the plant during the warm season. Growth is slow, and mature specimens retain their compact shape for many years, making them ideal for pots and xerophytic plant collections.
