Red-Spined Rainbow Cactus (Echinocereus Rigidissimus var. Rubispinus)

Echinocereus rigidissimus var. rubrispinus, known as the Red-Spined Rainbow Cactus, is a cactus of remarkable beauty, valued for its vibrant colors and its symmetrical pattern of red, pink, and purple spines. Native to the arid regions of Mexico and the southern United States, this cactus is a true symbol of the desert, adapted to withstand extreme drought and fluctuating temperatures.

Unlike other cacti, the Red-Spined Rainbow Cactus stands out for the spectacular color transition of its sheaths, which range from bright red in youth to golden and white shades as the plant ages. Besides its unique ornamental appearance, this cactus also impresses with its large, deep pink flowers, which bloom in spring and summer, turning the plant into a true focal point in any succulent collection.

Care Instructions

🌿 Light: Preferably strong direct light. It grows best in sunny places, such as south-facing windowsills.

🌡️ Temperature: Tolerates temperatures between 5-35°C, but must be protected from frost (below 5°C). In the cold season, it is recommended to keep it in a dry and cool place.

💧 Watering: Minimal! Water once every 2-3 weeks in the warm season and once every 4-6 weeks in winter. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings.

🌱 Soil: A special mix for cacti and succulents, based on sand, gravel, and perlite, ensuring excellent drainage.

🌿 Fertilizing: Apply a weak fertilizer for cacti (NPK 5-10-10) once every 2 months during the growing period (spring-summer).

🪴 Repotting: Recommended every 3-4 years, to allow the roots to develop and to renew the soil.
