Phalaenopsis Taisuco Jasper (peloric)

Phalaenopsis Taisuco Jasper is a decorative indoor hybrid, appreciated for its beautifully marked flowers and its ability to remain in bloom for a long time. A healthy plant has firm leaves, silvery-green roots, and a substrate that dries evenly.

Light. Place the plant in bright, filtered light: an east-facing window is ideal, while in a south-facing window, keep it away from the glass or behind a curtain. Strong sunlight causes yellow-brown spots; too little light prolongs the interval between blooms.

Temperature and location in the home. A stable indoor temperature is suitable, with gentle ventilation and no cold drafts. Do not let the leaves touch the cold window in winter, and do not keep the plant next to a radiator. A slight difference between day and night temperatures can help initiate a new flower spike.

Watering. Water when the visible roots turn silvery and the bark has almost completely dried out. Water thoroughly, then let the excess drain completely. Water left in the cachepot, between the leaves, or in the plant’s crown is more dangerous than leaving the substrate almost dry for one extra day.

Fertilizing and substrate. During the growing season, apply diluted orchid fertilizer after watering. Repot after flowering or when the bark has broken down, using an aerated orchid substrate. Do not move it into a much larger pot.

After flowering. A green flower spike should not be cut automatically; it may branch or remain active. If it dries out completely, cut it back to the base with clean scissors.
