Hoya siariae 'Pink' (Hoya blashernaezii ssp. siariae 'Pink') - mature specimens

Hoya siariae 'Pink' is the pink-flowered selection of a Filipino taxon still sold under the old name Hoya siariae. The foliage is long and narrow, with prominent veins. The accepted name is Hoya blashernaezii ssp. siariae. The fragrance is reported inconsistently. A rewarding houseplant with simple care requirements. Pale pink umbels appear on mature plants. Fragrance varies from one batch to another.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are green, ranging from long and lanceolate to smaller and elliptic on young shoots, with prominent veins. In good light, the foliage may develop pigmentation; this coloration is not variegation. The plant may be considered a “cactus hoya”: it requires less frequent watering and does not store a large amount of water in its foliage. The buds are sensitive to temperature and may drop after significant temperature fluctuations or exposure to cold drafts.

Flowers and fragrance. The 'Pink' selection is sold for its flowers, which open pale pink and almost transparent, then deepen to a more saturated pink. The shade also depends on growing conditions; the 'Red' form is also in circulation. The corolla reflexes at the tip, leaving a small, umbrella-like cup. The flowers remain open for a short time, often two to three days. In cultivation, flowering may be frequent when light levels are good, but it is not guaranteed in every season. Fragrance is retained as a commercial trait; some growers describe it as subtle, while others do not perceive it.

Siar, not a locality. The reference material was collected in the Bicol region of Luzon. The accepted range is the Philippines. 'Pink' remains a color label. The commercial title retains both names without reversing them.
